VESS Modules: From Kardzhali to International Markets with Automated Photovoltaic Module Production

In an interview for the "Business Start" show on Bloomberg TV Bulgaria, Eng. Lyubomir Gradev — member of the Board of Directors of VESS Modules and Executive Director of MONEK Bulgaria — presents the new high-tech production base of VESS Modules in Kardzhali.

VESS Modules sets a new direction for high-tech manufacturing in Bulgaria with its photovoltaic module production base in Kardzhali. The plant is designed with an annual capacity of up to 1 GW and combines automated production lines, quality control systems, and flexibility to work with various technologies and components.

The investment creates a foundation for the production of solar panels intended for both the Bulgarian market and international clients. Since the start of its operations, VESS Modules has seen interest from Germany, Italy, France, the USA, as well as markets in the Middle East and Africa.

“The new plant is fully automated – there is no operation in the production process performed manually. This is the industry model we should strive for,” commented Eng. Lyubomir Gradev, member of the Board of Directors of VESS Modules and Executive Director of MONEK Bulgaria, in an interview for “Business Start.”

Automation, Precision, and Quality Control

The production hall features robotic systems, connected transport lines, laser technologies, sensors, and cameras for automated control. Each module undergoes verification of key parameters during the production cycle.

At full production rhythm, a 620-watt photovoltaic module can roll off the line in less than 18 seconds. The high degree of automation limits the risk of human error, ensures process consistency, and creates conditions for reliable delivery planning.

This is an important advantage for investors, EPC companies, distributors, and end customers, for whom product quality, deadlines, and traceability are decisive in the implementation of solar projects.

Technological Platform with Adaptation Capabilities

The VESS Modules production line is configured with the dynamics of the global photovoltaic sector in mind. The plant supports TOPCon technology, as well as HJT and PERC cells, enabling adaptation to various market requirements, technical specifications, and regulatory frameworks.

Flexibility also extends to the supply chain. Depending on the specific project and customer requirements, components from different markets can be integrated. In parallel, VESS Modules is working on opportunities for local partnerships with Bulgarian manufacturers of aluminum frames, electrical components, cables, and busbars.

This approach is particularly significant in the context of changing logistics routes, geopolitical uncertainty, and the increasing need for shorter and more predictable supply chains.

Bulgarian Manufacturing with an International Perspective

VESS Modules does not view international markets as a distant goal, but as a natural extension of its production model. The company focuses on markets with high requirements for quality, certification, and product traceability.

Interest from Germany, Italy, and France is also linked to the accelerated development of the European clean technology industry. In the USA, VESS Modules is undergoing the necessary certification processes to meet local market requirements.

The competitive advantage of VESS Modules lies not in a price race, but in the combination of automated production, quality control, flexibility, and the ability to deliver at the right time and in the required quantity.

High Value-Added Jobs

The project also holds strong regional significance. Up to 200 new jobs are planned to be opened depending on production load and market development. These are positions related to the management, maintenance, and optimization of high-tech equipment.

VESS Modules is developing a model where automation does not replace people but changes their role. Teams will acquire knowledge and practical skills in robotics, automation, manufacturing information systems, and modern equipment maintenance.

The company also works with an international team of specialists who will support training and knowledge transfer to Bulgarian personnel over the next two years.

Part of an Integrated Energy Ecosystem

The production of photovoltaic modules in Kardzhali is a vital element of the broader VESS Group vision for an integrated energy ecosystem. It brings together PV module production, energy storage systems with vanadium redox flow batteries, vanadium electrolyte production, logistics, supply, and financing.

This long-term strategy creates prerequisites for greater technological independence, the development of local industrial expertise, and real solutions in support of the green transition.

With its plant in Kardzhali, VESS Modules demonstrates that Bulgaria can be a place not only for clean energy consumption but also for creating the technologies that make it possible.
